Frequently Asked Questions
What is culinary-grade matcha?
Culinary-grade matcha is specially crafted for cooking and blending into drinks, desserts, and baked goods. It has a slightly stronger flavor than ceremonial-grade matcha, making it perfect for recipes.
How is culinary-grade matcha different from ceremonial-grade matcha?
Ceremonial-grade matcha is made from the youngest tea leaves for a smoother, more delicate taste, ideal for traditional tea preparation. Culinary-grade matcha uses slightly more mature leaves, giving it a bolder flavor that holds up well in recipes.
How do I use culinary-grade matcha?
You can use it in matcha lattes, smoothies, ice cream, cakes, cookies, pancakes, and more. Simply mix with hot water or milk, or add directly to your recipes.
What sizes and flavours are available?
Our culinary-grade matcha comes in 50g, 100g, 250g, and 500g packs. Flavours include Vanilla, Banana, and Strawberry, along with the classic unflavoured version.
How should I store ceremonial matcha?
Keep it in an airtight container, away from light, heat, and moisture. For best freshness, store it in the refrigerator after opening and consume within 30–60 days.
How to Make a Perfect Cup of Culinary-Grade Matcha?
You’ll Need:
- 1–2 teaspoons (2–4g) of culinary-grade matcha
- 60–80 ml hot water (not boiling, about 80°C)
- 150–200 ml milk or water (depending on your recipe)
- A bamboo whisk (chasen) or milk frother
Steps:
- Sift the matcha into a bowl or cup to remove lumps and ensure a smooth texture.
- Add hot water (about 80°C, never boiling) to the matcha.
- Whisk vigorously in a zigzag (M or W) motion until frothy.
- Top up with warm milk for a latte or more water for a traditional cup.
- Sweeten to taste with honey, sugar, or syrup if desired.
💡 Tip: For flavoured matcha (vanilla, banana, strawberry), use warm milk instead of water for a creamier, richer taste.
